RISK ASSESSMENT OF POLLUTED MINING AREAS
LKAB IN KIRUNA, MALMBERGET AND SVAPPAVAARA, SWEDEN (2007-2008)
The scope of the project was to give LKAB a basis for decision concerning remediation measures in order to facilitate the priority of resources. Tyréns has carried out a broad inventory of all areas and activities within LKABs mining areas in the three different locations. All the areas were, apart from the risk classification, also ranked on the basis of environmental risks, health risks and risks connected to activities in the area, such as risk of constructing buildings over the contaminated area.
