PREPARATION OF ACTION PLANS FOR HEAVILY POLLUTED AREAS
REPUBLIC OF SERBIA (ONGOING)
Based on existing knowledge, a prioritized list of all point source pollutions in Serbia was made. The ten most critical pollution areas (with respect to the impact on humans, water, and nature) were selected for further investigation.
Proposals for remediation of the consequences of the point source pollution will be prepared for three of the ten point sources, and will be verified by pilot tests in the field or lab tests. The project will be carried out in close co-operation with the Serbian authorities concerned. The Serbian authorities will be trained in structural handeling of point source pollution and gain an insight into different types of remediation. They will also be invited to The Netherlands, where Witteveen+Bos is undertaking large-scale projects for remediation of point source pollution.
